iPhone 18 Pro: how does it differ from the iPhone 17 Pro, 16 Pro and 14 Pro?

With the arrival of theiPhone 18 Pro… Many people wonder whether it’s actually worth upgrading to a new model. The answer depends mainly on which iPhone you’re currently using.

Here are the main differences between the iPhone 18 Pro and three popular previous generations: iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro

The iPhone 17 Pro remains an excellent smartphone, but the 18 Pro offers several interesting improvements.

The first change concerns the A20 Pro chip, which improves performance and, in particular, capabilities related to artificial intelligence. Apple announces up to 20% increase in CPU performance and 40% in GPU performance.

The big new feature is also in the camera: the iPhone 18 Pro has a 48 MP Fusion main sensor with variable aperture. This technology allows the aperture to be adjusted according to the light and offers greater control over photos, particularly in low light and for portraits. The iPhone 17 Pro does not have this feature.

Battery life is also improving: up to 36 hours of video playback 18 hours for the 18 Pro compared with 33 hours for the 17 Pro. The Dynamic Island is also smaller and can handle more live activities.

In summary: The upgrade from the 17 Pro to the 18 Pro mainly brings improvements in camera quality, performance and battery life. It’s an interesting upgrade, but not necessarily essential for all 17 Pro owners.

iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro

Between the iPhone 16 Pro and the 18 Pro, the improvements are already much more significant.

The iPhone 16 Pro runs on the A18 Pro chip, whilst the 18 Pro is being upgraded to the A20 Pro. The 18 Pro also benefits from a new generation of artificial intelligence processing and improved thermal management.

When it comes to photography, the 18 Pro offers 48 MP main camera with variable aperture, whilst the 16 Pro uses an older camera setup. The 18 Pro also benefits from improvements to the various sensors and image processing.

The screen remains similar in size, measuring 6.3 inches The Pro models are no exception, but the 18 Pro features improvements to the Dynamic Island and display technology.

In summary: If you have an iPhone 16 Pro, upgrading to the 18 Pro offers a more noticeable improvement, particularly in terms of performance, photography, battery life and new AI-related features.

iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro

This is where the difference is most significant.

The iPhone 14 Pro runs on the A16 Bionic chip, whilst the 18 Pro uses the new A20 Pro. There are therefore four generations between the two devices, which represents a significant difference in terms of performance and artificial intelligence processing.

The iPhone 14 Pro still has a port Lightning, whilst the iPhone 18 Pro uses theUSB-C. The 18 Pro also features much more up-to-date camera technology, notably its 48 MP main sensor with variable aperture.

Battery life has also improved significantly over successive generations, and the 18 Pro offers new photo, video and AI features that are not available on the iPhone 14 Pro.

In summary: For someone still using an iPhone 14 Pro, the switch to the 18 Pro represents a much bigger leap than for someone who already owns a 17 Pro.

So, should you upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro?

It all depends on your current model:

📱 Do you have an iPhone 17 Pro?
The upgrade is mainly worth considering for the camera, performance and battery life, but you’re perfectly fine to keep your 17 Pro.

📱 Do you have an iPhone 16 Pro?
Upgrading to the 18 Pro is becoming more appealing thanks to improvements in performance, camera quality, battery life and AI.

📱 Do you have an iPhone 14 Pro?
The change is much more significant and can really bring a new experience to everyday life, particularly thanks to USB-C, performance and new camera technologies.
